‘We Simply Want Some Answers’: Ambitious EMT Is Fatally Shot Departing Portland Restaurant

An ambitious EMT who spent her existence helping others had just created a Portland, Oregon restaurant having a friend when she was gunned lower in her own vehicle.

Danae K. Johnson, 25, died 2 days later in the hospital. Her companion, who had been also struck through the gunfire, was hospitalized with “critical injuries” but is anticipated to outlive, based on an announcement in the Portland Police Bureau.

Police stated both were shot Wednesday around 8:55 p.m. within the 6800 block of Northeast Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard.

Williams’ great aunt, Laura Wiegman, told local station KGW that Johnson have been relaxing in the driver’s seat when she was struck with a bullet from someone in another vehicle with what she known as “random act of violence.” The bullet apparently arrived with the passenger side window.

“She was downtown in a restaurant getting dinner having a friend plus they left center and also got in to the vehicle,” she stated.

Williams’ mother, Adele Atwood, told KPTV that Johnson have been going to her grandmother’s house—who resided only a couple of minutes away—and was turning left in a sore point once the gunfire started.

“Her grandmother is her closest friend,” Atwood stated.

She described her daughter like a music lover who’d developed in Portland and loved the city she’d always known as home.

“She’s a large jokester,” Atwood stated. “So, she’s a very big laugh and smile everyone knows because it’s Danae.”

Johnson choose to go to college to get an EMT and it was working as a caregiver for that seniors and disabled when she died, her mother stated.

The household has become wishing police find her killer.  

“We simply want some solutions. You want to know why this could occur to her,” Atwood stated. “She does deserve some justice. She’s lost her youthful existence. She only agreed to be starting to live.”
