‘This Is Really A Crisis’: ‘Dateline’ Reports Around The Epidemic Of Missing And Murdered Indigenous Women

A “Dateline NBC” special will set of the epidemic of missing and murdered Indigenous ladies and the growing movement that’s demanding solutions.

The hour-lengthy special, known as “The Strategies of Spirit Lake,” features a job interview with Secretary from the Interior Deb Haaland, the very first Native American for everyone inside a presidential Cabinet.

“I’ve resided that existence and that i want their voices to become symbolized here,” Haaland states within the show’s trailer, regarding Indigenous women.   

In 2016, there have been 5,712 reports of missing American Indian and Alaska Native ladies and women, the nation’s Crime Information Center reported.

“This is really a crisis that’s been happening within our country since colonization, and it is very, very deep,” Haaland informs “Dateline.” “And so I’m grateful that we’re seeing action onto it at this time.”

She stated that dealing with the epidemic is really a priority on her.

Survivors of Holy Childhood, a Michigan boarding school that allegedly mistreated Native American children for many years, may also be interviewed.
