Scott Peterson Juror Testifies She Didn’t Lie On Juror Questionnaire, Wasn’t Biased

The juror in the centre of charged killer Scott Peterson’s retrial bid promised Friday that they didn’t have bitterness toward him until after she heard evidence he had wiped out his pregnant wife inside a situation that grabbed worldwide attention in 2004.

“Prior to the trial I did not have anger or any bitterness toward Scott whatsoever. Following the trial it had been a little true, since i sitting with the trial and took in towards the evidence,” testified former juror Richelle Nice.

Peterson’s lawyers wish to prove that they held a secret bias against him that avoided him from obtaining a fair trial, which she lied on her behalf jury questionnaire to obtain there.

But she generally stuck to her earlier written statements under questioning. She stated she did not consider herself a target of domestic violence, did not directly fear on her own unborn baby and trusted evidence during trial.

Nice helped convict Peterson in 2004 from the murders of his wife, Laci Peterson, 27, who had been eight several weeks pregnant, as well as the unborn boy they planned to mention Conner. Prosecutors say he dumped his wife’s body into Bay Area Bay on Christmas Eve 2002. The remains surfaced several weeks later.

Nice testified once she was granted immunity from perjury prosecution for misstatements she might have made in the last sworn statement.

Inside it, as well as in Friday’s testimony, she described why she did not disclose on the pre-trial jury questionnaire that they had searched for a restraining order during pregnancy in 2000, saying then that they “really fears on her unborn baby.”

She also disputed around the stand court papers indicating that her live-in boyfriend had assaulted her while she was again pregnant, testifying it had become she who hit him.

Nice initially invoked her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination Friday around the advice of her new attorney. She testified once she was granted immunity from prosecution.

Nice has been addressed in the court by name, though she formerly was known as Juror 7. She also used her name during publish-trial media interviews so when she co-authored a magazine concerning the situation with six other jurors.

She was nicknamed “Strawberry Shortcake” throughout the trial on her dyed vibrant red hair, that is now brown on the top and blondish at the end.

Peterson made an appearance in the court putting on a San Mateo City Jail uniform after Superior Court Judge Anne-Christine Massullo denied his request to put on street clothes for which is anticipated to become a week-lengthy hearing.

Massullo is billed through the California Top Court with deciding if Nice committed misconduct by not disclosing her very own history before she grew to become a juror, and when she held a that denied Peterson a good trial.

Nice generally stated her previous sworn written denials were true, however with some nuances.

She did not consider herself a target of domestic violence because within the situation in 2000, her boyfriend’s ex-girlfriend did not directly threaten her unborn baby — regardless of the wording in her own application for any restraining order at that time.

“She did not threaten my baby,” Nice testified, stating that she incorporated her unborn baby in her own application because “I had been being spiteful.”

“I had been in fear when we fought against. She wasn’t likely to deliberately hurt my child, but when we fought against and folded around like some dummies on the floor … I had been in fear I’d lose my child doing something stupid like this,” Nice testified.

And even though her live-in boyfriend in 2001 was arrested, pleaded guilty and it was purchased via a restraining to stay 100 yards (91 meters) from her, Nice stated the reality was that they hit him and never the other way round.

“Eddie never struck me, so I wasn’t a target of domestic violence,” she testified. “Used to do punch him, yes.”

It had been her boyfriend who then known as law enforcement on her behalf, but she did not cooperate also it backfired as he was arrested rather, Nice testified.

She stated police might have been fooled into arresting the incorrect person because she’d unintentionally cut her lip around the braces she was putting on at that time.

Nice generally stuck by her answer on the jury questionnaire when she clarified “no” to getting have you been a criminal offense victim or involved with a suit.

She also was by her sworn declaration in 2020 that they did not “feel ‘victimized’ how a law might define that term,” and did not think the restraining order would be a suit.

“I have experienced many fights and that i don’t consider myself a target. It might be different for you personally or someone else,” she clarified under questioning by Pat Harris, certainly one of Petersons’ attorneys.

She again denied getting a against Peterson, as she formerly mentioned in her own 2020 declaration.

Nice promised her statement then is “absolutely true” when she stated within the written declaration that they did “not form any conclusions concerning the evidence within the situation until I had been known as in to the jury deliberation room.”

She also stated her prior written statement holds true when she promised then that they comes with an “abiding conviction the expenditure is true in line with the evidence which was presented at trial. This abiding conviction relies exclusively on the effectiveness of evidence presented at trial.”

Peterson’s attorneys plan to use other witnesses they contend reveal that Nice entered the trial biased because she could relate like a mother towards the dying of Peterson’s developing fetus, who Nice known as “little man.”

Another former juror may also testify that Nice stated she was getting financial problems and they joked about publish-trial book and movie deals.

The judge may have as much as 3 months following the hearing to announce her ruling, which may be appealed by side.
