‘Pure Evil’: Ohio Man Denied Parole In ‘Brutal’ 1986 Rape Killings Of Two University Students

An Ohio man who had been charged of murdering and raping a set of college students greater than 3 . 5 decades ago was denied parole a week ago, based on officials.

The Ohio Parole Board blocked 53-year-old Clinton Dickens’ petition for parole, Summit County prosecutors announced on Friday. 

Dickens, that has been in jail since age 17, transported the 1986 rape and murders of 21-year-old Wendy Offredo and 20-year-old Beginning McCreery, together with his now-dead co-defendant Richard Cooey.

Dickens was not qualified for parole until 2071. However, a brand new Ohio law, passed in 2021, enables individuals who committed crimes younger than 18 to try to get parole after working between 18 and 3 decades in jail.

“This would be a horrible crime, which continues to be felt even today nearly 36 years later,” Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh stated inside a statement on April 22. “Wendy and Beginning were preferred among everybody who understood them. It absolutely sickens me to consider the things they experienced. “[Richard] Cooey and Dickens are pure evil and Dickens will not be discrete of prison. We’ll continue the battle to help keep him secured and also to keep your community safe.”

On August. 31, 1986, McCreery and Offredo, both College of Akron students who also labored as waitresses, were driving home using their restaurant jobs once they first experienced Dickens, Cooey, along with a third teen, who have been hurling rocks off a highway overpass, prosecutors stated. Because the two women drove underneath them, the teenagers put a big slice of concrete, which smashed through their car windows.

Dickens and Cooey later drove the 2 Akron women to some nearby payphone where Offredo known as her mother. Later on, the 2 men kidnapped McCreery and Offredo, and transported these to a remote wooded area in Norton, Ohio, where they sexually assaulted, beat, and tortured them for many hrs. The 3rd teen didn’t have fun playing the double killing, prosecutors stated.

McCreery was fatally stabbed within the neck, while Offredo was strangled to dying, officials stated. The 2 men ultimately created ‘X’s’ into both McCreery and Offredo’s stomachs, before getting rid of their corpses inside a nearby clump of shrubbery, based on the Akron Beacon Journal.

Dickens was initially sentenced to 95 years imprisonment on Jan. 12, 1987, online condition jail records acquired by Archiweekend.com show. 

In 2008, Cooey was performed through the condition for his participation within the double murders after a number of lawsuits seeking clemency. 

”You motherf—ers haven’t compensated focus on anything I have needed to say within the last 22 years,” Cooey stated when requested if he’d any last words just before his execution. “Why can you focus on anything I must say now?”

Cooey had formerly tried to block his dying sentence for the reason that lethal injection was inhumane because of the fact he was “morbidly obese,” CNN reported. He’d considered 267 pounds. 

Dickens will not be qualified for parole again until November 2026, prosecutors stated.
