Former Olympic boxer Felix Verdejo-Sanchez was arrested in San Juan a few days ago for that murder and abduction of his pregnant girlfriend.
Keishla Rodriguez Ortiz’s lifeless body is discovered inside a lagoon in San Jose on Saturday, days after she told Verdejo-Sanchez she was transporting his child, the FBI stated.
On April 29, Verdejo-Sanchez punched Ortiz hard inside his Dodge Sports utility vehicle, based on an arrest affidavit acquired by Archiweekend.com. He then allegedly injected her having a syringe that contains unknown substances, bound her braches with wire, and tied a “block” towards the pregnant lady.
The boxer then drove to Teodoro Moscoso Bridge between San Juan and Carolina, Puerto Rico, police stated. He allegedly removed Ortiz from his Sports utility vehicle, tossed her from the bridge, then opened fire on her behalf having a pistol after she stepped in to the water.
Verdejo-Sanchez was aided by an unknown witness who implicated him to government bodies. The witness initially hijacked Ortiz’s vehicle, based on federal agents. The murdered woman’s Kia was later retrieved in Canovanas.
Investigators stated surveillance footage portrayed Verdejo-Sanchez’s Dodge Sports utility vehicle pulling over around the bridge’s emergency lane at about the time of Ortiz’s murder. The automobile was later recorded coming back to some nearby location around the bridge a minimum of two times, based on the arrest affidavit. A covering casing was retrieved in the bridge.
Mobile phone records later placed Verdejo-Sanchez near Ortiz around the morning of her dying. Within the hrs prior to her murder, the pair exchanged multiple texts and a minimum of three telephone calls.
Police found that Ortiz told her family she was pregnant shortly before her dying. The unnamed witness also confirmed that Verdejo-Sanchez contacted him days prior to the killing.
“Felix Verdejo-Sanchez contacted the witness and requested his assistance to terminate her pregnancy from the victim, who told Verdejo that they was pregnant together with his child with different pregnancy test,” the arrest affidavit mentioned.
Ortiz’s autopsy results weren’t immediately available.
Verdejo-Sanchez was billed with kidnapping leading to dying, carjacking leading to dying, and intentionally killing an unborn baby, based on a criminal complaint acquired by Archiweekend.com.
“We continues working for the ending of gender-based violence, so we offer our greatest condolences towards the group of the victim,” United States Attorney W. Stephen Muldrow stated inside a statement on May 2.
The FBI seemed to be aided through the Puerto Rico Police Bureau and also the Puerto Rico Department of Justice.
“Puerto Rico mourns Keishla Rodríguez’s dying,” stated Alexis Torres, secretary from the Department of Public Safety. “Our greatest condolences to her family and buddies…We’ll continue cooperating and we’ll seek justice for Keishla.”
Verdejo-Sanchez competed in the 2012 Olympics working in london. The lightweight boxer, whose nickname is “El Diamante,” or “the gemstone,” has recorded 28 wins, two losses, and 17 knockouts in the professional career, based on his Instagram profile.
Verdejo-Sanchez had a preliminary court appearance on Monday, based on separate court papers acquired by Archiweekend.com. His defense attorney, David Ruhnke, declined to discuss the situation now.
If charged, the boxer could face the dying penalty.
