Officials Did not Believe Kennedi High Had Autism After Which She Narrowly Steered clear of Sex Trafficking

Kennedi High was nearly forced right into a sex trafficking operation when police force ignored her autism.

Fortunately, The Black and Missing Foundation, operated by sister-in-laws Derrica and Natalie Wilson, advocates for missing persons’ families and brings focus on how missing Black individuals are treated in media by police force, plus they recommended for top.

High’s mother Brandi Stallings arrived at to them in 2017 after High, 16, never came home from soccer practice. She was last seen stepping into a vehicle outdoors her Baltimore area school by having an 18-year-old man that they met on the dating application. Stallings felt such as the police didn’t comprehend that her daughter, who had been identified as having autism at 12, is at obvious danger.

“She’s 16 in writing but they are we searching at cognition?,” she reflected in “Black and Missing,” a four-part docuseries streaming on Cinemax Max. “Since I don’t believe that was considered. […] Her brain just operates quite different than ours. She doesn’t take a look at anybody like a bad person that is hard because I am scared of her being cheated.Inches

Stallings also expressed throughout a Baltimore Police Department press conference that they doesn’t think her daughter “believes she’s at risk but she is really.”

An old Baltimore investigator, whose face was distorted and name redacted in the series, known as High’s situation “funny” and stated his opinions onto it “may offend many people.Inches He stated he unsuccessful to understand functioning autism was.

“She visited Western,” he stated. “Western is among the good schools in Baltimore and you need to be educated to get involved with Western.”

The founders from the Black and Missing Foundation say in “Black and Missing” stated they “immediately began to cringe” when searching in the intake form for HIgh’s situation. They believed obvious mistakes were created. Natalie stated that the Amber Alert must have been issued immediately because High was with somebody that wasn’t her caregiver.

The sister-in-laws and regulations requested radio personality Michael Baisden to push for additional attention around the situation, that they did. Simultaneously, former Baltimore police chief spokesman T.J. Cruz, who’s Black, also recalls in “Black and Missing” he were built with a bad feeling as he discovered the situation. He told others around the pressure they should provide more attention and that he noted that the missing 22-year-old white-colored lady might have not a problem getting deserved media exposure. Understanding the nature of sex trafficking within the city, he saw warning flags for this type of situation in High’s situation.

Not much later, because of that media exposure, an Uber driver tipped from the Black and Missing Foundation that they’re going to have experienced the teen. The motive force gave the address from the apartment complex where they dropped her off. The tenth grader ended up being saved from the unit within that complex, the Baltimore Sun reported at that time.

3 or 4 men within the apartment unit claimed that they consensual sex using the teeanger. Due to complications from the law, and since age consent in Maryland is 16,  it doesn’t appear that anybody continues to be billed having a crime.

Cruz stated at that time that top being “taken benefit of is really a fair characterization” from the situation. He noted that police “believe that they wasn’t a long way away from being put into a sex trafficking operation.”
