Man Who Wiped out Nicki Minaj’s Father In Hit-and-run Can Get Under Annually In Jail

The person who wiped out Nicki Minaj’s father inside a hit-and-run crash will expend just several weeks in jail.

Businessman Charles Polevich, 71, accepted departing the scene from the Feb 2021 crash under consideration in the court on Friday in Lengthy Island’s Nassau County, the Connected Press reports. He pleaded guilty to tampering with evidence by concealing the vehicle.

Polevich accepted to initially getting away from his vehicle after fatally hitting pedestrian Robert Maraj, 64. However, he drove off and did not dial 911. Investigators say then he stashed his vehicle away inside a garage and set a tarp regarding this. 

Maraj died in a hospital the next day the collision.

Judge Howard Sturim mentioned Friday that Polevich would get “no several year in prison,” based on the Connected Press. He may also be hit with community service along with a suspended license. 

Polevich is anticipated to become sentenced on August. 3.

The victim’s widow, Carol Maraj, told reporters she was “not happy” using the expected sentence, based on the Connected Press. 

This past year, she filed a $150 million suit against Polevich, claiming he was negligent, reckless and careless, Newsday reported.

Prosecutors will also be not happy with the planned sentence. 

“Given the seriousness of the defendant’s conduct, we disagree using the sentencing commitment in the court,” Nassau County District Attorney’s office spokesperson Brendan Brosh stated inside a statement towards the Connected Press. Brosh have been fighting for Polevich to get between one and 3 years.

Polevich’s lawyer Marc Gann known as the hit-and-run “completely from character” for his client, who runs a drilling and water purification business in Guam.

“He does feel tremendous empathy for Mr. Maraj’s family and tremendous remorse for just about any role he performed in the dying,” Gann told the Connected Press, suggesting his client might have been suffering a clinical condition.
