Judge Tosses George Zimmerman’s Suit Against Trayvon Martin’s Parents, Others

A Florida judge has ignored a $100 million suit filed by George Zimmerman from the parents from the teen he fatally shot.

George Zimmerman filed a attorney and conspiracy suit against several parties in 2019 — including the mother and father of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, whose 2012 dying sparked conversations about race and gun control within the U . s . States. Based on the Connected Press, Judge John Cooper of Tallahassee thrown the suit, ruling that Zimmerman hadn’t demonstrated “any fraudulent representation.”

Zimmerman claimed the defendants wrongfully portrayed him like a racist who profiled Trayvon Martin before fatally shooting him nearly ten years ago, alleging the parties attempted to “destroy his goodwill and status in [the] community,” based on the AP. Trayvon Martin was Black, while Zimmerman was the kid of the Hispanic mother and Caucasian father.

“It’s only a relief, understanding that this time around the courts wasn’t opting for the foolishness and made the decision to not put us through reliving the whole ordeal,” Trayvon Martin’s father, Tracy Martin, told CBS Miami. “Because that’s what we’re going to need to undergo, we’re going [to] need to relive the problem once again.”

Throughout the high-profile 2013 trial, prosecutors contended that Trayvon, who had been putting on a hoodie and transporting a bag of Skittles when Zimmerman shot him, was murdered by Zimmerman in cold bloodstream. Zimmerman maintained he shot balance smaller sized teenage boy in self-defense.

Zimmerman’s trial and subsequent acquittal sparked a nationwide debate on racism and also the stand-your-ground law, which enables citizens in certain states to make use of deadly pressure when they reasonably believe they’re threatened by of dying or great bodily harm.

Zimmerman not just sued the victim’s parents, Tracy Martin and Sybrina Fulton, but additionally named attorney Ben Crump and the writer, Harper Collins, within the suit following the discharge of Crump’s 2019 book “Open Season: Legalized Genocide of Colored People.”

Half-siblings Brittany Gemstone Eugene and Rachel Jeantel were also named within the suit, based on the AP. Zimmerman accused Jeantel of laying around the stand when she testified in 2013 about speaking to Trayvon Martin before his dying. Zimmerman claimed Jeantel covered for Eugene, who had been supposedly reluctant to testify. The suit alleged that Jeantel was “an imposter and pretend witness,” reported by ABC affiliate WPBF.

But Judge John Cooper found no evidence to aid any one of Zimmerman’s claims.

“There could be no claim for conspiracy to swindle if there’s no adequately mentioned claim for fraud,” Cooper authored in the ruling, based on the AP.

Tracy Martin commented around the audacity of Zimmerman’s suit, claiming it added “insult to injuries,” reported by CBS Miami.

“It was like attempting to pour salt in to the [wound],” stated Trayvon Martin’s father. “Here we’re, 10 years later, and you’ve already become away using the murder in our boy, and today generate this groundless suit.”

The 2019 suit isn’t the only real time Zimmerman has sued people for mentioning Trayvon Martin’s dying. He sued then-presidential candidates Pete Buttigieg and Elizabeth Warren in 2020 for $265 million over a set of tweets that never named him,

“Trayvon Martin could have been 25 today,” Buttigieg tweeted on February. 5, 2020. “How many 25th birthdays happen to be stolen from us by white-colored supremacy, gun violence, prejudice, and fear?”

Warren echoed the sentiment that very same day, saying, “We have to finish gun violence and racism,” inside a tweet she tagged to Trayvon Martin’s mother.

“I think anyone can file a suit,” former civil legal rights lawyer Gloria J. Browne-Marshall told in 2020. “It doesn’t mean it’s likely to be effective.”

The suit against Buttigieg and Warren continues to be open.
