After twenty five years, detectives in Polk County, Oregon have billed charged killer John Lee Clifton using the 1996 murder of his wife Kathy Clifton.

In September of 1996 the skeletal remains of the adult female were based in the hillsides of Polk County, but investigators were not able to recognize the victim for a long time. They used from CT scans to 3D made images. Then in 2019, Yolanda McClary, a upon the market Crime Scene Investigator using the Vegas Metro Police Department, arrived at to them. Genealogists dealing with McClary could create a DNA profile, and knowning that information they determined the victim was Kathy Clifton. The situation and also the process for identifying the remains was featured on Archiweekend’s The Jane Doe Murders.

Kathy Clifton was the youngest of three women born to Leo and Jessie Thomas of Oklahoma. When Leo and Jessie divorced, Leo introduced Kathy to Or and she or he was later adopted by Aileen Buxton. Kathy had three children in her own first couple of marriages, but lost child custody, plus they were adopted by other families in Oklahoma.

Kathy eventually came back and married Clifton back in 1984. They moved in the Salem area and Kathy’s last connection with anybody she understood is at March of 1996. Her remains were found six several weeks later in Polk County. 

Government bodies refuse missing persons reports were declared Kathy. Investigators later discovered Clifton married another lady about 30 days after Kathy’s remains put together and moved from Or, reports the Polk County Optimizer-Observer. 

Detectives located Clifton in December of 2020 and interviewed him multiple occasions about Kathy’s disappearance

In August of the year, a Polk County Grand Jury indicted Clifton for Kathy’s murder. On August 13, he was taken into child custody. Detectives say after his arrest, he accepted to his participation in Kathy’s murder. Clifton was arraigned and billed with murder within the first degree on Tuesday and it is being held without bail in the Polk City Jail.
