A Florida man continues to be sentenced to existence after murdering his adoptive mother in her own bed.
19-year-old Carlos Hallowell, who had been 17 during the time of the murder, was in prison for killing Denise Hallowell within their Inverness, Florida home, based on the Citrus County Chronicle. On This summer 13, 2019, Hallowell attacked his mother by having an ax while she rested.
Because Hallowell would be a minor during the time of the murder, he wasn’t qualified for that dying penalty.
At Tuesday’s sentencing, Hallowell addressed a legal court.
“Although she’s avoid us, I understand she’s listening,” he stated, based on the Chronicle. “Mom, I’m so sorry. Words can’t describe the way i feel at this time, just how much I miss you, how sorry I’m for which I’ve done and everything I’ve done throughout my entire existence along with you. … I really like you a lot.”
Hallowell also addressed the judge.
“Your Recognition, the only real factor I ask is perfect for justice in my mother and whim for me personally,” he stated.
Denise adopted Carlos from Guatemala as he was four years old, based on the Chronicle. Beginning at 11, Hallowell grew to become determined by drugs and alcohol, including experimentation with ecstasy, methamphetamines, and cocaine.
“The defendant chose, by himself volition, to start taking growing levels of alcohol along with a veritable witches’ brew of controlled substances,” stated Citrus County Circuit Court Judge Richard Howard, based on the Chronicle.

“That really hurt,” Hallowell told investigators, based on the Chronicle. “She allow me to get it, in a major way … saying I’m a useless bit of s–t due to what I wish to do.”
Hallowell told investigators he required the ax into his mother’s room and blacked out.
“I remember sharping [sic] the ax, and today, all [a] sudden, it’s at the back of her mind,” Hallowell stated, based on the Chronicle. “It was type of quickly. … I did not intend for this to occur.”
At sentencing, Judge Howard known Hallowell being an “incorrigible offender” without any expect rehabilitation.
“The defendant’s murder of his mother wasn’t a direct result any sudden episode of emotion or aberrant thought,” Howard stated. “Rather, it’s called the culmination of his need to acquire his mother’s real condition, cars, along with other property.”
Howard stated the attack was premeditated.
“The defendant required a lengthy time for you to plan his attack … until [the] victim had a nap,” Howard ongoing. “All the while, silently sharpening the ax in the room.”
The judge known the testimony of psychologists hired by the condition and defense, based on the Chronicle. He reported the expert witnesses’ findings that Hallowell met 16 from 20 criteria needed to find out psychopathy.
“There isn’t any rehabilitation for any psychopath,” the judge stated.
Hallowell’s public defender states his client intends to appeal the ruling.
