A 300-page trove of FBI documents released over the past weekend associated with James “Whitey” Bulger’s crimes and misdeeds before he flipped on his allies has says the bureau was knowledgeable the well known Boston gangster’s criminal activities before recruiting him being an informant.
The previous Winter Hill Gang boss-switched-FBI informant, who had been brutally wiped out inside a West Virginia prison complex in 2018, was charged in 2013 for his role in 11 murders. He’d been on the move for 16 years just before his 2011 arrest in California. In 1994, he was tipped off and away to a pending RICO indictment by his handler using the FBI. In November 2013, Bulger was presented with two relation to existence jail time plus 5 years.
The heavily redacted FBI documents detail how within the years before Bulger flipped and started informing on other mobsters, the bureau was on the trail of what it really known as “different hoodlum groups” within the Boston area within the mid-1970s.
