Dying Penalty Searched for For Man Charged With Gunning Lower 5-Year-Old Neighbor Who Had Been Riding His Bike Before Home

Prosecutors in New York are trying to find the dying penalty for men charged with fatally shooting his 5-year-old neighbor.

The Wilson County district attorney’s office announced that they’ll pursue capital punishment for Darius Sessoms, 26, who’s charged with murdering Cannon Hinnant in August of 2020, the Charlotte now Observer reports. The court continues to have to sign off with that the following hearing continues to be looking for April.

Sessoms was indicted on a single count of first-degree murder in December.

Sessoms is charged with accumulating to Hinnant because the boy was riding his bicycle and having fun with his two siblings outdoors his home in Wilson, New York. Sessoms allegedly shot him within the mind before fleeing the scene.

Sessoms had known the victim’s family for eight years. Only one previous day the shooting, Sessoms had dinner at the Hinnant home. Also, he shared a beer using the child’s father on the porch. 

“There wasn’t anything between me and him, any bad bloodstream whatsoever, for him to possess a reason to get this done,” Austin Hinnant, Cannon’s father, told WRAL in 2020.

The boy’s mother, Bonny Parker, is supporting the state’s push for that dying penalty, telling the Charlotte now Observer, “nobody should pull off murdering a young child.”

She used a shirt together with her slain son’s face onto it in this week’s court appearance, WRAL reports.

“I pray he will get the dying penalty. We’ll fight for your up until the finish. That’s what we’re wishing for,” she told the opening. “This means the nearest we are able to reach justice for Cannon.​” ​​

She also credits the daddy of her son’s accused killer to stop the violence. She stated he tackled their own boy following the shooting.

“If it was not for him,” Parker told the Charlotte now Observer, “I might have lost my kids. He might have lost their own existence.”

The victim’s two siblings, ages 8 and seven, were present throughout the shooting.

Per month following the shooting, Sessoms’ girlfriend Aolani Takemi Marie Pettit, 22, was billed with legal accessory afterwards for allegedly supplying him with transportation so he might get from Wilson to Goldsboro following the shooting, where he was arrested.
