Dying Of Pregnant Teen Dubbed ‘Lake Michigan Jane Doe’ Being Investigated As Homicide

The situation of the pregnant teen found dead in Lake Michigan earlier this year has been investigated like a homicide, police force stated a week ago.

On Friday, the river County Sheriff’s Office released the identity of 19-year-old Yarianna Wheeler, based on a statement. Now government bodies are investigating the deaths of Wheeler and her unborn baby like a homicide after autopsy results indicated she died consequently of foul play.

On August. 15, a fisherman reported an appearance floating within the waters of Lake Michigan around three miles southeast of Waukegan Harbor, based on the statement. The United States Coast Guard retrieved your body soon after 3 p.m.

Detectives stated the woman dubbed “Lake Michigan Jane Doe” was six-to-seven months pregnant.

“It’s believed she was within the water for a maximum of 7-12 days when retrieved,” the statement ongoing.

Detectives searched for the public’s assist in attempting to identify her by releasing a sketch and an image from the surveillance video from the visibly pregnant teen, which part of the general public recognized.

Government bodies say Wheeler resided in Chicago but was initially in the 3200 block of West Wilcox Street in Bellwood, about 15 miles west from the city.

While citing the official reason for dying was still being pending, investigators stated they think foul play was involved.

“Sheriff’s detectives are investigating this incident like a homicide,” the discharge mentioned. “The autopsy of ‘Lake Michigan Jane Doe’ revealed she’d several sharp pressure injuries on her behalf body. The state reason for dying is pending.”

Investigators believe Wheeler possibly joined water between the northern Indiana shoreline towards the northern Illinois shoreline of Lake Michigan.

Within the same statement, the river County Sheriff’s Office announced another body have been found approximately an hour or so after Wheeler’s body was retrieved in the lake.

On August. 20, the sheriff’s office announced the person was positively recognized as Martin Mendoza, 49, of Waukesha, Wisconsin. They determined Mendoza drowned close to the 63rd Street Harbor in Chicago on August. 8.

“Detectives are confident there’s no relation between Mendoza and ‘Lake Michigan Jane Doe,” the discharge mentioned.

When requested about possible suspects, Lt. Corvelli told that detectives are actively investigating his possible homicide.
