Charged Killer Announced Innocence, Mocked Medical Staff Before Execution

A charged killer didn’t mince words as Arizona put him to dying within the first execution committed through the condition in almost eight years.

Clarence Dixon, 66, was performed on Wednesday morning with lethal injection.

“I actually do and try to will proclaim my innocence — now let us do that s—,” Dixon stated before his execution, Deputy Corrections Director Frank Strada told Arizona Central.

Dixon was charged in 2008 of sexually assaulting and killing 21-year-old Arizona Condition College student Deana Bowdoin in 1978, CNN reports, after DNA linked him towards the crime in 2001. He had been serving a existence sentence for any 1986 sexual assault as he was charged in Bowdoin’s dying.

Just 2 days before Bowdoin’s murder, Dixon have been released from child custody after being found not liable by reason of madness for hitting a complete stranger having a metal pipe the prior year, based on the Equal Justice Initiative, and it was waiting for a civil commitment. He was identified as having severe depression and schizophrenia after his arrest for the reason that situation, Slate reports.

However, at the end of April, the Arizona Board of Executive Clemency unanimously denied his petition for commutation or reprieve of his sentence, KNXV reported. The U.S. District Court for that District of Arizona denied a motion for that stay of his execution on Tuesday along with a day later, the U.S. Top Court also denied a credit card applicatoin for any stay of execution.

Troy Hayden, a media witness from Fox News, told Arizona Central that Dixon was defiant because the execution team battled to inject him on Wednesday.

He told the medical team that “they worshipped dying” while mocking them. Hayden mentioned that Dixon also directly addressed Bowdoin, declaring that that they understood he didn’t kill her.

It apparently required execution team people nearly 30 minutes to insert IVs into Dixon’s body. After much struggle, they wound up making an cut into Dixon’s groin, where they placed the fatal IV.

Bowdoin’s sister Leslie James, who had been gift for the execution, told CNN, “He earned choices and for that reason I am not extending its love to waste anymore breath or words on him.”
