Rogers House Alias Wimbledon House

Rogers House, also known as Wimbledon House or 22 Parkside, was designed by Richard Rogers and his wife Su Rogers in 1968. One of Rogers ‘ little-known works, which made significant contributions to architectural history, the Rogers house was built for the architect’s family. Rogers ‘ Design also represented British architecture at the 1967 Paris Biennale. The building is of considerable importance to the English architectural heritage.

Richard Rogers describes the house as ‘the most successful small-scale project I have been involved in’. This is because the design, as a home, gives Rogers ‘ parents the desired private space and distance from the eyes, and has an approach that balances this closeness with all-glass facades and an open-plan scheme. The structure, in a long thinly wooded urban area adjacent to a wide road in southwest Lonra, was designed with a pottery workshop completely detached from the house in order to be a sound barrier between the road and the House. The Rogers house consists of two separate elements facing the inner courtyard. The house is, by Rogers ’definition,’a transparent tube with solid boundary walls’.

“The house consists of a series of portals…the main idea is flexibility. We aimed to design a home that could adapt to the changing needs of the family.”Richard Rogers says. The steel bearing system of the structure has been enclosed in the structure to avoid maintenance costs and facilitate connections between the structure and facade of the structure. This structure is manufactured with standard steel sections and formed with 8 rigid, welded gantries crossing the same opening. Such a carrier fiction has provided the ability to be reused into the system that surrounds the house with maximum disassembly and the ability to rearrange the interior dividers according to what is required.

The walls of the Rogers house consist of composite panels: plastic-coated aluminum interior, foam plastic core and neoprene connection system panels. Many of these panels are designed as separators that can move, due to the design fiction that takes shape around the House’s flexibility principle.

Painted in vivid colors for the openings of the house, the inside of the steel frames is filled with maximum-sized glasses. Double-storey windows were also preferred as a roof in the toilet parts of the House. The windows that make up the roof have the property of reflecting sunlight in these areas.

For the Rogers House, Richard Rogers notes that the concept idea for the house is to develop a series of ready-made elements that will allow you to build houses cheaply in various sizes. “The idea was that this whole house could be created in a factory.“now that these standard items have been designed, you could buy them from the shops around you, ” says Rogers.”. Rogers ‘ goal with this idea was to create a solution to the housing problem in England during those years. “This would be a standardized system that would solve the whole housing problem of the British. He couldn’t! But it certainly led to a lot of the work I did 50 years later, and even longer.”says Rogers.
